The front Pirelli appeared to have another 6,600 miles or more left on it before it would have been bald. The rear Pirelli lasted 6,600 miles and was 'bald' when it failed. Based upon my schedule of travel, they were unavailable in Edmonton so, the rest is history. The Edmonton Vespa Dealer was going to do a change of tires for me on the way up but at that time the Pirelli's were hard to come by. They are great people and again, I'd like to thank them for their help. I have visited the one in Calgary and had my scooter serviced there. If I could get a reliable 12,000 miles out of it, I could make it to Alaska and back to the lower 48 where there are more Vespa Dealers and I could get a new Belt mounted. The reason I want a Kevlar Belt is, I hope it will last longer than my Vespa version. The CVT belt had made the noise when it disintegrated, turning to what appeared to be tassels from corn or cotton. I hit the Emergency Off Switch and coasted to the side. Well, I started home and just about 65 miles north of Chattanooga on the Interstate, I heard what I thought was a tire blowing out and the engine revved very high. I was also told that when the belt needed to be changed, the CVT would slip and or the bike would wobble. In asking around before heading to Alaska, I was advised that if I did not 'hot rod' my scooter from stops, it should last for 10,000 to 12,000 miles. The CVT Belt listed in my Manuals, calls for replacement at 7,500 Miles. Prior to departing for Alaska, I ordered the Shop Manual for the GT-200 and I studied it and the Owners Manual. None of the first five 'motorcycle dealers' in Fairbanks would even consider mounting my new tires, I was sure replacing a CVT Belt in a Vespa Scooter would have been beyond their skill level let alone their indignity of working on a Scooter! Thank you again Northern Powersports for your kindness and courtesy. I chickened out worrying about the Belt failing after my experience with the tires. Through the kindness of Northern Powersports, my new tires were mounted and I headed home to Clearwater. I ordered a new set of tires and sat in Fairbanks for six days waiting for an 'overnight' air delivery. With about 6,600 miles on the odometer and being about 87 miles north of Fairbanks, the rear tire gave up the ghost. As a novice, I had to learn by experience with the tires. I even called Pirelli but they could not give me any guidance. No one at that time could tell me about tire wear or CVT Belt wear.
